Pricing
Cost and Payment Questions
How much does a hair transplant cost in Albania?
Cost depends on how many grafts you need, which we determine with a free photo assessment. UK clinics typically charge £5,000–£15,000 for the same work — Albania is substantially less. Send your photos on WhatsApp and we will give you a number within 24 hours. See our cost breakdown guide for more context.
What is included in the price?
Our quoted price includes the consultation, blood tests, the FUE or DHI procedure, local anaesthesia, post-op medication kit, first wash demonstration, and airport transfer. No hidden fees.
Are there any hidden fees?
No. The price we quote is the price you pay. We provide a detailed breakdown before you book your flights so there are no surprises.
How do I pay for treatment?
Clinics accept bank transfers, credit/debit cards, and cash (EUR or GBP). A deposit is typically required to secure your appointment, with the balance paid at the clinic.
Why is Albania cheaper than the UK for hair transplants?
Lower operating costs — rent, wages, and lab fees are significantly lower in Albania. This does not reflect lower quality; surgeons are EU-trained and use the same techniques and equipment as UK clinics.
Procedure
Treatment and Techniques
What is the difference between FUE and DHI?
FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction) extracts individual grafts and implants them into pre-made channels. DHI (Direct Hair Implantation) uses a Choi pen to extract and implant in one step, offering more precise angle control. Both deliver excellent results; DHI is often preferred for hairline work. Read our detailed FUE vs DHI comparison guide.
How long does the procedure take?
Most FUE procedures take 6–8 hours. DHI can run a little longer. You are under local anaesthetic the whole time, so there is no pain — most patients watch films or listen to music to pass the time.
Is the procedure painful?
Not really. The local anaesthetic injections at the start sting a bit — that is the worst of it. Once you are numb, you will not feel the extraction or implantation. Afterwards there is some soreness for a couple of days, which paracetamol handles fine.
How do I know how many grafts I need?
Send us clear photos of your hairline, crown, and donor area (the back of your head). Our surgeon will assess your Norwood stage and tell you how many grafts makes sense for your goals. It is free and takes under 24 hours. See our Norwood scale guide.
How many grafts can I get in one session?
Most clinics can transplant up to 4,000–5,000 grafts in a single session. For very large areas, a second session may be recommended 6–12 months later.
What is the Norwood scale?
The Norwood scale is the standard classification system for male pattern baldness, ranging from stage I (minimal recession) to stage VII (extensive loss). Your surgeon uses this to assess your hair loss and plan the transplant. Learn more in our Norwood scale guide.
Can women get hair transplants?
Yes. Women with thinning hair, receding hairlines, or hair loss from traction alopecia can benefit from FUE transplants. The assessment process is the same — send photos and our team will advise.
What is the best age to get a hair transplant?
Most surgeons recommend waiting until at least age 25, when hair loss patterns are more predictable. However, every case is assessed individually based on the extent and stability of hair loss. Read our best age for a hair transplant guide.
Travel
Getting to Albania
How long do I need to stay in Albania?
The procedure takes one day. We recommend staying 2–3 days total for the pre-op consultation, procedure, and first post-op check.
Do I need a visa to travel to Albania?
UK passport holders do not need a visa for Albania and can stay for up to 90 days. EU citizens can enter with a valid ID card or passport.
How do I get to Tirana?
Tirana International Airport (TIA) has direct flights from London, Manchester, and many European cities. Budget airlines like Wizz Air offer affordable fares, often under £50 each way.
Do you help with hotel and travel arrangements?
Yes. We recommend hotels near the clinic and coordinate your airport transfer. Many patients stay in central Tirana hotels for €40–€80 per night.
Is Albania a safe country to visit?
Yes. Albania is an EU candidate country and a NATO member. Tirana is a modern, safe capital city. The FCDO (UK Foreign Office) does not advise against travel to Albania.
How does Albania compare to Turkey for hair transplants?
Albania offers comparable pricing to Turkey but with key advantages: shorter flights from the UK, smaller clinics with more personalised attention, EU-trained surgeons, and no visa requirements for UK citizens. Read our full Albania vs Turkey comparison.
Safety
Quality and Credentials
Is a hair transplant in Albania safe?
Yes. Our partner clinics meet European medical standards with internationally trained surgeons, modern equipment, and strict hygiene protocols. Albania is an EU candidate country with growing medical tourism infrastructure. Read our complete guide to hair transplants abroad.
Do the surgeons speak English?
Yes. All our partner surgeons and clinic staff speak fluent English. Communication is never a barrier during consultations, the procedure, or aftercare.
Will there be visible scarring?
FUE leaves tiny dot scars in the donor area that are virtually invisible once hair grows back. There is no linear scar like with the older FUT strip method. Most patients can wear their hair short without visible scarring. Read our FUE vs FUT scarring guide.
Aftercare
Recovery and Results
When will I see results?
The transplanted hair sheds in the first few weeks — do not panic, this is normal. New growth shows up around months 3–4, and by 9–12 months most people have a clear picture of their result. Final density is usually reached at 12–18 months.
Will the transplanted hair fall out?
Yes — this is normal. Transplanted hair sheds 2–4 weeks after the procedure (called shock loss). New growth begins at 3–4 months and the final result is visible at 9–12 months. The transplanted follicles are permanent.
What does recovery look like?
Days 1–3: mild swelling and redness. Days 4–7: scabbing forms around grafts. Days 7–14: scabs fall off naturally. Most patients return to desk work within 3–5 days. Strenuous exercise should be avoided for 4 weeks. See our full recovery timeline guide.
When can I go back to work?
Most patients return to desk work within 3–5 days. If your job involves physical labour, helmets, or dusty environments, plan for 7–10 days off.
Do I need PRP therapy after a transplant?
PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) therapy is optional but recommended. It can accelerate healing and improve graft survival rates. Many patients choose 2–3 PRP sessions in the months following their transplant. Learn more in our PRP therapy guide.
What aftercare do I need when I return home?
We provide a detailed aftercare kit and guide. Key instructions include gentle washing from day 3, avoiding direct sunlight for 4 weeks, sleeping elevated for the first week, and no hats or helmets for 2 weeks. Our team remains available on WhatsApp.
What if something goes wrong after I return home?
Serious complications with FUE are rare. If something does not look right, message us on WhatsApp with photos and our surgeon will assess it. Within the guarantee period, any corrective work is covered — you would only need to cover the cost of travelling back.
How quickly will I get a response after enquiring?
WhatsApp messages with photos typically receive a graft estimate and quote within 24 hours. Form submissions are reviewed and responded to within one business day.
